Welcome to the Kleiner Michel!

We are delighted to welcome you. Since 1811, the “Kleiner Michel” has been the Catholic church in Hamburg’s city center. From the beginning, this originally Protestant church has been a place where people from many cultures meet. In addition, the Kleiner Michel offers numerous opportunities for exchange, for experiencing community, and for celebrating faith together.

Three internationally oriented communities – the German, the French, and the Filipino – find a home here, along with lived hospitality and intercultural understanding.

Many groups and communities meet regularly in this church. The Jesuit community shapes this place through its open-minded spirituality and pastoral care that invites people to deepen their faith and broaden their horizons.

Charity, tolerance, and freedom are core values here. Children and youth, the poor and disadvantaged, find protection and attention. In every that is done here, the human person stands at the center – in the trust that God is already present and can be sought and found.

Further information and images about the church’s history can be found on the display boards in the entrance area. A leaflet is also available at the literature stand.
